Otterbox iPad Defender Case – Click for Pricing & Customer Reviews
Probably the best iPad case for those that want to bomb-proof their Apple tablet (well nearly), the Otterbox Defender iPad Case has been eagerly awaited for sure. This is not a softy, but instead a truly durable and hard-working shell type case that will keep for great new gadget protected from just about anything (dips in the pool aside).
So what do you get for nearly $90? Well a whole lot of tough protection. This cover is comprised of three layers to provide ultimate drop-proofing.
- You get a transparent screen film. Oh yes, fun to apply but worth the hassle in the long run that’s for sure.
- High impact polycarbonate shell. This is the really tough bit that will cope with drops and knocks like nothing else.
- A soft silicone rubber casing that covers all that hard working polycarbonate.
So with your three layers the iPad is covered no matter how many times your toddler knocks it off the coffee table. Once you get the transparent screen protection applied putting on your iPads new Batman style protective case is pretty straightforward. If you can be bothered, you can even take the polycarbonate off the back and snap it over the front for ultimate touch-screen safety when you’re not using your iPad.
Unlike most similar iPad shell covers this one incorporates a built in stand. Yes it is a little tricky to get used to, but once you have the knack of getting your tablet stood upright it really is a great added bonus. Combined with the silicon gripped pads at the foot of the case the iPad is pretty stable and not likely to be sliding around anywhere whilst you try to enjoy a move.
Of course all the ports and controls are easily accessible through the case so once your iPad has been clothed in the ultimate form of protection you will probably never feel the need to remove it. If you use the docking station you can snap off a panel to reveal the docking connection (just don’t use that panel whilst you’re “docked”.
The only downside to the Otterbox Defender Case for the iPad is the pretty serious weight issue. Now, for ultimate protection you simply cannot rely on thin lightweight materials. So if you are that clumsy or know a man who is (and is likely to use your iPad) you understand that quality protection means quality materials and that means bulk. Weighing in at 12.6 ounces this does significantly increase the overall weight of your new portable handheld gadget. Whether this is a price worth paying all depends on how you use, and where you take your iPad. But there is still no denying this is one strong iPad case from Otterbox. If you really cannot stand the thought of all that extra bulk check out the Otterbox Commuter Series for the iPad which offers a little less protection for a lot less bulk, by removing some of the polycarbonate shell. Still though, customer reviews and sales figures confirm this is one of the best cases for the iPad around.
