This is a very flashy silicone skin cover for the iPhone.  And, let’s face it there are literally hundreds of those already around.  But this one is more highly engineered than most it has to be said.  Otterbox are all about quality design and protection, not always merely going for the good looks we want in our gadget covers and cases.  This time though they haven’t done too badly at all in the looks front.  Okay, you don’t get lots of color options but what you do get feels great in the hand and is simple and good looking.

Giving you a firmer grip on your iPhone should mean there is a lot less chance of you ever dropping the thing anyway.  But, though this will cope with a lot, it is not a Defender.  Don’t expect to drop-kick your iPhone around the room for too long, or indeed toss it into any muddy puddles.  But for a whole lot more protection than you have with a “naked iPhone”, at little weight and without adding much bulk to your handheld gadget it ain’t half bad!

The Best iPhone 3GS Cases come from Otterbox.  These aren’t iPhone cases to be messed with.  They’re tough cookies that will keep your favorite phone perfectly safe no matter how much fun you’re having.  Well okay, for most buyers the time the Otterbox Defender cases really come into their own is if you have a job that means you need a cell-phone but have to take into unfriendly situations.

The Defender series is their ultimate range.  You get the most protection and the most rugged appearance.  That means this is also their bulkiest iPhone case.  But to be fair that is of course the price you need to pay to get the very toughest protection from drops, knocks, dust and spills.   Let’s be clear though, this is not a waterproof iPhone case, but it will help with the odd muddy puddle.  And, since it has a holster clip included you shouldn’t be dropping it as often as you might previously have done!

Built into the iPhone case is a clear screen protector.  This means you get total protection unlike the minimal protection you would get with say an iPhone skin.  But there are a few issues.  Some people find it makes the beautiful screen a little less bright.  But an anti-glare screen cover should sort out that if you find it an issue.  Touch-screen responsiveness is still fabulous though and frankly that’s the most important bit of the iPhone’s desirability isn’t it?

Most importantly, (well after awesome drop protection) is the fact that all the buttons and controls are easily reached through the Defender case.  Charging and so on is not compromised and the sound travels well from speaker through the case to ear.  If that bit didn’t work we’d be in some serious trouble!

The key to the success in Otterbox iPhone cases being so darned tough is their polycarbonate shell.  This offers brilliant buffeting against knocks or drops.  Overlaying this is a soft silicon skin so you get that great grip associated with rubberised cell-phone cases.

This isn’t for everyone.  It is not great if you like to carry your cell in a shirt pocket for instance as it does add serious bulk.  But for a work environment, toddler protection or just in the hands of the plain old clumsy owner the Otterbox Defender Case for iPhone is truly tremendous!
