Yep, we love funky Nook covers and we love traditional leather Nook covers even more, but there is no getting away from it, Silicone Skins are super useful, lightweight and affordable ways to protect your eBook reader.

Not all silicone skins are equal though.  Yes you can get away with a very cheap one, but if you want a decent form-fitting design you have to pay a smidgen more (not much mind you).  The one pictured which comes in a bewildering range of colors is priced at only around $15 which is hardly excessive to keep your eBook reader safe.

These silicone skins are great for adding a touch of fun with their fruity colors, but more importantly you get a far more grippy hold on your eBook reader when its in its silicone cover.  All the ports and buttons accessible.  You can use controls through the silicone skin easily – in fact some customers love the feel of controlling their Nook through silicone more than without it!  Each to their own I guess.

As with all these silicone skins you simply place your eReader down into the bottom and then pull the edges over the front corners of the device.  Once placed inside, the skin grips onto the gadget and will not let it go unless you want to remove it.

To protect the front cover a non-adhesive ultra-thin transparent screen cover is supplied.  This will protect the nook against scratches and so forth whilst the skin itself deals with minor knocks or scratches to the body of the device.

These feel good in the hand and are a cheap and cheerful way to offer your Nook a little more protection.  They will fit easily into any Nook carry case or purse you use but be warned silicone is notoriously good at attracting dirt and dust.  So yes, you will on occasion need to wipe over any silicone skin you buy for your Nook.  Don’t panic about it though as a few customer reviews do, this is just the basic nature of this type of Nook Silicone Skin Cover.

A simple leather Nook Cover for an affordable price is not something to be missed. This Sienna Leather Elite Case is currently being sold for around $16. A great price for a simple jacket to keep your eBook Reader safe and sound, yet still looking good.

Unlike many Kindle Covers, that incorporate a secure hinge system to keep the reader safe this simple design uses a simple elastic strap system to keep the corners of the Nook in place.  This means removing or inserting the electronic reader is really easy and quick to do.

A leather strap closes the book style jacket securely so whilst in your bag or purse, the case cannot open accidentally.  This is really important if you want to ensure no dirt gets between the front cover and the all important eReader display.

This is in no way the flashiest Nook Cover you could buy.  But it is one of the cheapest leather covers that actually looks any good.  The aged leather look is pretty stylish on a budget.  Inside is a corner flap for holding papers or cards.

It might not be our favorite Nook Cover.  But for a simple, no-nonsense traditional book style jacket it is a winner.  With a soft interior to take care of the screen and a lightweight design that ensures all the Nook’s controls are easy to reach this is a great little cheap leather Nook Cover.  Check out our Best Nook Covers post for information on the best selling covers and cases for the Nook Reader, and to find out which ones we would buy.

If you don’t want to break the bank but do want some more protection for your eBook Reader, and favor a traditional design it might just be the best leather Nook Cover for you!  Personally I would rather pay a little bit more and get something that is made of genuine leather that actually feels, smells and looks like leather or something completely different!  If though you want a bit more color in your life, check out the JavoEdge Cherry Blossom Nook Covers instead!

If you want to keep your Nook reader looking fabulous and working well by the pool or in the bath-tub you need to get your hands on a waterproof Nook cover.  These are a great way to keep your e-reader safe but still be able to use it fully.

Like all the TrendyDigital WaterGuard cases for electronic readers and gadgets this is made from uv resistant plastic that won’t degrade in the sun.  Along the top are two double ziplock style closures that fold and clip securely.  This should offer complete waterproof protection for the reader inside.  Now I have to admit I wouldn’t want to be snorkelling with it.  But to ensure splashes or quick dips in the tub do not damage the Nook reader it is more than adequate.

Again, just like their waterproof Kindle covers, the case comes with a neck strap and a range of colored borders so you can opt for your favorite.

Ideal to guard against sand as well as splashes at the beach these are a simple solution to the worry of damaging your gadgets whilst out and about.

Your reader will not be perfect inside one of these waterpoof cases, but it will be safe and relatively easy to use.  Most of the controls are simple to use through the plastic but as the touchscreen is a little less perfect when this well protected you might want to turn your nook on and get to the right page before placing it inside its waterproof cover.  Then simple controls such as page turning should not be problematic at all.
